A Very New England Christmas Home

We live in a 1942 Connecticut center hall colonial, named Foxhill House, that we started renovating recently. We’ve renovated two homes before this one, and our last home was featured in Better Homes & Gardens magazine and we had a big holiday feature in BHG Christmas Ideas magazine too. Christmas decorating has always been a labor of love in our family and I’m happy to start sharing more of it here this season.

I used to share home projects and client work a lot when I did design work years ago. I am not doing client work these days, but I am going to start sharing some home content centered around Foxhill House, especially in 2023 & 2024. Working on interiors is definitely something that I enjoy. I have a few spaces I’m working on now and will share later this year and in 2023.

With this home being in a state of “unfinished”, it doesn’t stop me from decking the halls and enjoying it. We got our tree over the weekend and the whole house smells of Frasier Fir.

We are in the middle of making over our bedroom, bathroom, and dining room at the moment, so I decided to share our entry way and main living room this time around. I’ll share our bedroom makeover next home post. We are wallpapering it now, so it wasn’t quite ready to share today.

Here’s our very New England Holiday Home Tour…

Living Room

Our Christmas Tree

We get a real tree every year, and Frasier Firs are my absolute favorite. We place our tree right in the front window of our living room and I love seeing it as I pull up to the house at night. The original built-in bookcases I’m not going to change at all. They are so well-built and I love the dental moulding along the top. One of the charming things about this old house.

I have a collection of ginger jar ornaments and this year I added these blue and white ginger jar ornaments to our tree. The rest of our ornaments are 23 years worth of collections from travels and fun with the kids. I cherish these tiny reminders of the times gone by with the family. Lots of happy memories to dwell on looking at our ornament collection.

The wrapping paper and grosgrain ribbon is from my favorite shop for holiday gift wrap, WH Hostess.

My tartan dress, white cable knit sweater, pearl handle bag, crystal & hoop earrings and black bow heels are from Draper James. The DJ Holiday Collection is so good every year!

Entry Way & Living Room Decor Details

This is the first year that I didn’t use fresh greenery inside the home. I have fresh outside but went faux inside this year. I added in some eucalyptus and dried orange slices to add some natural to the faux cedar garlands.

The red tartan pillow covers are from WH Hostess. They match the gift wrap.

My absolute favorite holiday fragrance is Thyme’s Frasier Fir and I always have candles, diffusers, and sprays from them this time of year.

The red scalloped tray on our entry way console is new and I love the color for holiday. The white bamboo cache pots are still available and the perfect size for orchids.

The large blue and white temple jars and white garden stool are new this year from Cailini Coastal. A must visit online shop for your home. I love the selection!

For chilly nights, the blue herringbone blanket is the perfect layer of comfort. Chappy Wrap has so many great patterns, but the herringbone is my pick.

A Festive Bar Tray

This holiday outfit is actually a green floral blouse paired with a green floral tiered skirt also from Draper James.

The gold point toe heels are a fun glittery add in and they will be great to wear for New Years Eve too.

One of my favorite additions this year to our living room is this bar tray. The tray I swap out and have the red bamboo handle one for holiday. I have a white bamboo tray that I use the rest of the year.

The tartan ice bucket and shaker are really great quality and would make a great gift.

The frosted holiday glasses are a nice festive touch and I love the red tartan monogrammed napkins.
