Overnight Stay in Newport, RI

I love a visit to Newport, Rhode Island. We go a few times every year and I like to see it in the different seasons. Summer is definitely the busiest for this “City by the Sea”. There is always something fun to do and if you’ve hit all the super touristy things, it’s nice to find other ways to enjoy this coastal town.

Here are the highlights from our most recent stay in Newport…

Morning Sail with Classic Cruises of Newport

After arriving in town, we grabbed coffee and some pastries from The Coffee Grinder. They always have the best bakery items and we love to sit and sip our drinks in the Adirondack chairs along Bannister’s Wharf. It’s a great way to start your day in Newport.

We booked a mid-morning sail with Classic Cruises of Newport. Getting on the water gives you views of Newport you can’t see from the shore. We have done private charters and group sails and they never disappoint. You can see all the sailing photos in this post HERE.

Checking into the La Farge Perry House

After our sail, we grabbed a Del’s Lemonade and shopped around the wharf. I can never resist a Del’s when we are in Rhode Island! It’s a must-do!

By the time we finished up downtown, it was time to head up to Bellevue Avenue and be closer to our inn. We grabbed lunch at Pasta Beach and it did not disappoint. The portions were so HUGE (like I could have split my entree 4 ways) that we had plenty leftover for dinner that night too.

After a long lunch, it was time to check-in at our overnight accommodations. The Chanler on Cliff Walk has a sister property called the La Farge Perry House. It’s a lovely bed and breakfast and in a great neighborhood full of shopping, restaurants, and tourist attractions like the International Tennis Hall of Fame, The Mansions, Redwood Library & Athenaeum and the Audrain Auto Museum.

Taking in a Sunset

Part of this trip was a work trip, so I had to dedicate some hours to that. When I wrapped up my work for the day, we headed for a late evening drive along Ocean Drive and took in the sunset at Castle Hill Light.

Coffee & Breakfast

Truth be told, I am more of a breakfast in bed person when I travel. I love a good room service breakfast—it’s one of my guilty pleasures. Our room had its own Keurig, so I enjoyed that before we had to head downstairs.

The La Farge Perry House had a breakfast bar set up and the innkeeper offered to make us a warm meal. You can dine with the other guests in the dining room or opt for a more private experience in the solarium.

Enjoying the Classic Coast

We wrapped our work that day mid-afternoon and decided to treat ourselves to a nice meal and a little relaxation before we had to head out of town. We loaded up our things and headed over to Castle Hill Inn to have a meal by the water at The Lawn. Also, we got in some chair time taking in one of Newport’s most iconic views. It was such a beautiful day to feel the breeze and the sun on your skin. A nice way to end our visit.

We’ve visited Newport quite a few times in last couple of years and it always welcomes us with the spirit of New England. I’m kicking around going back in the fall because it’s the only time I haven’t been to this Sailing Capital of the World. I imagine it’s great to visit in the cooler months of September and October too.

Many thanks to The Chanler and The La Farge Perry House for our stay. It was lovely!

Until next time,

Kristy
